This website is operated on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH (Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany). The server is located in Germany. When you visit this site, your browser automatically transmits technical data to the server (browser type, operating system, referrer URL, time of request, IP address), which is stored temporarily in log files to ensure secure and stable operation. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
This website uses TLS encryption. You can recognise this by the “https://” in the address bar and the lock icon in your browser.
This website uses Matomo, an open-source web analytics tool that we operate ourselves on a server in Germany (Hetzner). No data is passed to a third party — Matomo is self-hosted software, not an external service, and nothing leaves the EU.
No cookies, no tracking across sites. Matomo is configured with cookies disabled and your IP address anonymised before storage. We cannot identify you personally, and you are not recognised across other websites. Because no cookies are set and no personal profile is created, this site does not need a cookie banner.
What is recorded. Aggregate statistics only: which pages were visited, roughly where visitors came from (for example a link from a social network), approximate region, browser and device type, and how long a visit lasted.
Legal basis. Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in understanding, in aggregate, how this site is used so we can improve it. You may object at any time under Art. 21 GDPR (see section 7). Alternatively, most browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting, which Matomo respects.
If you sign up for the newsletter, we process the email address you provide in order to send you the free novella What We Never Said at Dawn and, later, occasional updates about new books. We use the email marketing service MailerLite for this purpose.
Consent and delivery. The form uses an explicit consent checkbox. After submitting the form, you are added to the reader list and the novella is sent immediately; there is no separate confirmation email. We record the email address, the sign-up time and the consent given in order to operate the newsletter and document the subscription.
Processor. For customers in the EEA, MailerLite is provided by MailerLite Limited, 88 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, D02 DK18, Ireland. MailerLite processes subscriber data on our behalf under its data processing addendum (Art. 28 GDPR). The new MailerLite data centre is located in the Netherlands. MailerLite may use sub-processors and, where data is transferred outside the EEA, states that it uses the safeguards described in its data processing addendum, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. More information: MailerLite privacy policy and data processing addendum.
Legal basis. Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent, given by ticking the consent checkbox before you submit the form).
Withdrawal. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email, or by writing to info@meerakane.com. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it. Upon unsubscribing, your address is removed from the active list; a minimal record may be kept to document that you unsubscribed and to prevent re-adding you by mistake.
Retention. Your data is stored for as long as you remain subscribed. Subscription records are retained only as long as necessary to document the subscription and meet applicable legal obligations.
Earlier subscriptions were managed through self-hosted Listmonk software and delivered through Brevo. Those services are no longer used for new sign-ups from this website. Existing legacy records remain separated from the new MailerLite reader list and are retained only for the applicable migration, unsubscribe and legal documentation purposes.
If you write to info@meerakane.com, we use the data you provide (email address, message content, and any name you give us) solely to answer your message. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries). We delete this correspondence once your enquiry is resolved, unless we are legally required to retain it longer.
Access, rectification, erasure (Art. 15–17 GDPR): you may request information about the personal data we hold about you, and request that it be corrected or deleted.
Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) and data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) are available under the conditions set out in the GDPR.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time for reasons relating to your particular situation.
Right to complain: you may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — for Saxony: Saxon Data Protection Officer.
